"My experience with Mike Makara and State Farm will read like an episode of the Twilight Zone: On July 29th of this year, I bought a Mercedes Sprinter cargo van with plans to upfit it into a camper. A friend suggested Makara as he was a long term client. I already knew State Farm wrote policies for Sprinters, so I called them. Chris fixed me up with a policy which seemed reasonable. After closing the deal, he sends me a binder and I paid first month. A few days later, Chris sends me an email requesting photos of upfitting, and cost estimate claiming that the underwriters were requesting it. As it turned out, the vehicle was in a shop in Irving being upfitted and I had new photos and cost estimate which I promptly provided to Chris. The photos clearly depicted the conversion to a camper. The next day, I get a letter from State Farm saying that I was being canceled for not providing photos and estimate. The letter was dated before Chris had asked for information. I contacted Chris, and he said it must be a mistake and assured me he passed the information I provided to the underwriters. A few days later, I get a refund check ahead of my impending cancellation date of Sep 3rd. I then searched other companies and secured a policy with Progressive Ins. Then I received another letter from State Farm similar to the first, but with a cancellation date of Sep 19th vs Sep 3rd! Sep 19th has come and gone. I am done with State Farm forever. I don't recommend them at all. No call from Mike Makara for the totally bizarre treatment. I am 66 yrs old, no crashes, no tickets--with a credit score north of 800. Go figure!!"
